Re: Soucek
It's probably because Rice is getting forward a lot more, leaving it more open in the DM area

I've learned something today! Thanks to you and Tomas Soucek.

I thought he struggled towards the end of last season to. Be good to see Kral create a bit of competition which want there last year

He's absolutely fucked, that's why.

Re: Soucek
He does seem to be playing alot more defensive. Not sure why as his best moments are always in the oppossition box.

Some sloppy passes also.

he is a great player for us, runs himself ragged but would be good to see him getting forward more. Sitting back and passing is not his game.

Re: Soucek
I don't see a change in form tbf. Teams have been pressing us higher lately and Soucek isn't a good passer so he makes mistakes. Otherwise defensively on point and makes sam good runs into the box but unfortunately he isn't 7'2" to get to the end of Cresswell crosses

Re: Soucek
Agree entirely OneAll, he is playing far too deep. If the plan is for Rice to play further forward then it should not be to the detriment of Soucek, a plan B is needed.

Re: Soucek
The fanfare of the deadline day signings massively papered over the cracks that the squad is ridiculously small.

We simply do not have the numbers of decent players to replace our weary team

The cup game this week will be a perfect example

A Mish mash of 1st team and has beens

Kral needs to be given an extended run in the team to get him up to speed

Russian salad, known to russians as Olivier Salad is at every gathering, bbq or family do.

They use a mix of mayonnaise and sour cream as the base. Everything must be diced into very small pieces. It contains peas, pickled gherkins (sweet n sour), potato and then a meat or fish - usually ham or crayfish/sashimi.

Re: Soucek
To continue the form of last season is a tough ask. He hasn’t had a rest and with our squad or most squads outside the top four we don’t have the quality to let him take that rest. It’s only going to get harder with our games.

Also rice is coming forward more so he stays back.

Mex

Russian salad is, or was, also widely available in Calcutta. It was introduced there by a colourful character called Boris Lissanevitch ("rhymes with son-of-a-"), a Russian (Ukranian?) deserter from the Soviet army in WW II. He was a former ballet dancer and an accomplished chef, who started the famous and luxurious Yak & Yeti Hotel in Kathmandu as well as a restaurant in Calcutta. His version also contained potatoes, carrots and peas, and was made not with mayo but a strange kind of substitute.

Not sure if Soucek would approve.

Re: Soucek
Very true Coffee and perhaps I should elaborate to avoid disappointment. Here in the Costa Dorada it’s actually called Russian salad (ensalada Rusa), predominantly potatoes, but also has peas and carrots and sometimes other stuff. All mixed in plenty of good mayonnaise. Very tasty.

Re: Soucek
There are many versions of potato salad.

There's the classic German variety, the simplest and best of them all, of potatoes with mayo (plus mustard and vinegar, no more than a dash, to give a background tang), onions and parsley. I've had one with yoghurt instead of mayo, which was gross. Some people add chopped gherkins or eggs. There's one with olive oil instead of mayo, plus onions and garlic. And there's a warm version, which is just glorified boiled potatoes.

Re: Soucek
Apart from a few stray passes I fresher Soucek would have scored one of the chances he had in the box that he missed yesterday.
On the plus side he headed out most of our defense headers from ManU corners.
A bit too exotic perhaps, but the Cost Dorada here in Spain does a nice potato salad.

Correction noted.

Re: Soucek
Soucek’s role is to provide defensive cover in front of the back four, particularly aerially and then get forward quickly with late runs into the box. He is not really a player you want to get involved in a lot of short passing moves – never been his strength. There may have been a subtle change in the relative responsibilities between him and Rice.

He probably could do with a rest though, but in Folkestone rather than Margate. No potato salad in Margate.

Re: Soucek
Last season ended late. He then went off to play in the Euros. Back to pre-season with WHU. And then internationals plus away Euro match and then yesterday. It wasn't just him, there was an overall weariness in the team yesterday. He needs a week in Margate.

I’ve noticed in the last few games seems to be giving the ball away far more then usual
